Welcome to my “Be the Light” blog series. My next few posts will be related to sources of light. This series is the first inside my newest category – Biblical Truths. I decided to add a new master category because I am going to be working on some devotionals and Bible studies. Blogging about them helps me organize my thoughts, forces me to study my Bible, and hopefully, may benefit others.
Light is a source of life, heat, healing, and freedom. The original source of heat God created was the sun. It provides heat which can cook food, boil water, and warm a body temperature that has gotten too cold for survival. All of which gives life.
Light gives life.
The original source of heat God created was the sun. It provides heat which can cook food, boil water, and warm a body temperature that has gotten too cold for survival. When a baby lives inside a mother’s womb, it does so in complete darkness. While that time is necessary for the baby to grow until it can live on its own. Only once the baby is birthed and reaches the light, can it truly live.
When I gave birth to Davis and Macy Kate, they offered me a heating lamp to aid in my healing process. WOW! That thing was such a huge help (in combo with the ol’ sitz bath of course; can I get an amen, ladies?) Anyways, I couldn’t believe I’d missed out on having access to a heat lamp from the birth of my firstborn. I can only hope that since then East Ridge Hospital in Ringgold, GA got the memo ;). When Tanner was born he did develop a bit of jaundice. Fortunately, we did not have to take him back to the hospital to keep him under the healing ultraviolet lights. Instead, we were able to correct the problem by placing his bassinet in front of a big picture window during nap time for a few days. It worked like a charm.
Light can also heal the soul and mind. Did you know that doctors often recommend exposure to sunlight to help with depression? That’s the most natural way to get some vitamin D. That’s why more people are depressed in the winter months when they get less outside time and exposure to sunlight.
Light brings freedom.
When words are spoken in darkness or sins hidden away from light, dependence on something other than the truth rules. Whether it be a slave to sin, lies, or money, when things are done in secret, attempting to be hidden, freedom cannot exist. However, once they are exposed to the light, everyone is free. Free to confess, be forgiven, and release the chains of darkness that enslave us.
Don’t miss this blog series and get some insights and scriptural perspectives of eclipses, sunsets, and flashlights. As you go through the rest of your week remember that there is no such thing as darkness, rather simply an absence of light. Never be guilty of taking someone’s away.
